Your only weapon is the camera obscura, a device that allows you to see ghosts and capture their tormented souls in photographs. You play several roles through the course of the game as you explore an abandoned psychiatric hospital, lighthouse and other unsettling locales, searching for clues about the past. Years later, two of the survivors have returned to discover the truth of what happened to them – and they find an isle crowded with vengeful spirits and haunted buildings. The main task is to find clues to fix the problem and drive away the evil spirits.The action takes place on the remote Rogetsu Island, where five abducted schoolgirls were once discovered, mentally scarred and unable to remember the bizarre ritual they had been forced to take part in. You have to run away from enemies, try to find out the causes of crazy events and work your way deeper to the epicenter of the problem. The player can arm themselves with a special camera that uses a flash to ward off ghosts and allow time for action. Yuri Kozukata, Myu Hinasaki, and Ren Hojo are sent to investigate. The exploration of unusual phenomena involves three characters who are determined to test and discover the mysteries that lie within. Many who tried to explore the mysteries of the mountainous region end up dying, leaving no one wanting to go there anymore. A long time ago, a strange religious cult was worshiped there, causing ordinary people to experience strange and disturbing events. The story in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water tells of the holy mountain Hikami. The user controls each of the three available characters in turn, unveiling intertwined stories in which you must grapple with the intricate twists and turns of the plot.
